Wildlife Sanctuaries in Ludhiana

There were numerous animals those used to exist in the prehistoric eras and the recent pasts but we cannot find them in the present times. The reason behind this is that most of them have become extinct either sue to environmental catastrophes or sue to man-made disasters.

Zoos and wildlife parks are natural settings that safeguard the rare species from hunting, contending and predation to look after the country’s animal resources. Public visits are allowed in these natural wildlife parks due to its dual facet in promoting tourism.  Almost all the states and UT’s of the country have a wildlife park. Mainly, there is a zoo named Tiger Safari and a Deer Park in the city of Ludhiana. Check out the details of both of them below.

Ludhiana Zoo or Tiger Safari

Tiger Safari, also known as Ludhiana Zoo, is a very famous zoo in Ludhiana situated on the National Highway from Ludhiana to Jalandhar (GT Road). It is at a distance of about 6kms from the main city of Ludhiana. Tiger Safari is stretched out in a vast area of 25 acres. Since 1993, the tigers have delighted a lot of people here. Apart from the tigers, you can also find rabbits, sambhars, peacocks and black bucks in the zoo. The royal tigers wandering about in the dense forest offer an exhilarating experience to the visitors.

Wildlife in Ludhiana

Certainly, Tiger safari is one such place where children would just love going.  Children feel quite excited to see tigers bathing, roaring and roaming freely in front of them, of course from the windows of the van. All of us have seen tigers caged up in the zoo. But imagine how it would feel to see them in their natural settings, just the way they live in forests. Tigers basking in the sun or hiding in the bushes is indeed an amusing experience. Tiger Safari is a fantabulous picnic spot for families.

Tiger Safari has complete provisions for the safety of the visitors. The Wildlife Department has got into a contract with a private company for the same. The company has deployed two buses for the safari. If one bus takes more than 10 minutes to return, the other bus leaves in its search. Animals are also provided very care. In case any animal becomes ill, consultations are taken from the veterinary doctors of PAU or the Director of Chattbir Zoo.

Mostly, in the safari, the tigers are seen sitting lazily with a secluded look in their eyes. A bell is rung at 5.00 P.M., i.e., the dinner time for the tigers.  The odor of the meat pulls them to the corrals where they are caged in the night. The Safari remains closed on Mondays and the two watering outlets are cleaned on this day. At the entry, you can see a lot of peacocks roaming. Tigers just love chasing peacocks and, thus, they remain active.

Deer Park of Ludhiana

Apart from the Ludhiana Zoo, there is one more place to visit for the wildlife lovers - the Deer Park. The place is named so as it provides a place of abode to thousands of deer. The park is situated at a distance of 20kms from Ludhiana in village Neelon on Chandigarh - Ludhiana State Highway.

Set up in 1972, the Deer Park is spread in a large area of 5 hectares. The visitors get to see some of the rare species of deer including spotted deer, black buck, sambhar and rabbits also. Rare species of birds such as red headed parakeet, grey partridge and budgerigar can also be found here.

Both these places provide a wonderful experience to the visitors.
